On Sunday, 28 September, I had the opportunity to join the choir for the Mass at Kamuning Church. This activity was part of our school program called Saint Mary Way, which teaches us to serve others, work together, and grow in faith. I felt happy but also a little nervous, because singing in church is a big responsibility.
I arrived at the church at 6:30 a.m. with one of my friends. The morning air was cool, and the church area was still quiet. When we entered, the choir conductor welcomed us with a warm smile. She asked us to sit down and get ready for warm-up. We started with breathing exercises, simple vocal practice, and repeated the songs we had already learned at school. At first, I was worried that I might forget some parts, but practicing together made me feel more confident.
When the Mass was about to start, we quickly moved to our positions. More and more people began to arrive, and I could feel my heart beating faster. I kept reminding myself to stay calm and focus on the songs. Standing with my friends made me feel stronger, and I knew we could support each other. When it was time to sing, I took a deep breath and let my voice blend with the others. The harmony we created made the atmosphere peaceful, and I felt proud of how united we were.
As the congregation prayed and listened to the readings, I noticed how the music helped them feel calm and focused. Seeing their peaceful expressions made me happy, because I felt that our singing truly made a difference. During one of the hymns, we sang a song that we had practiced many times at school. I felt very proud at that moment because all our hard work was finally shown.
After the Mass ended, our teacher, who was also our choir coach, gathered us for a short evaluation. She thanked us for our effort and said that we had improved a lot. She also gave us some advice for the next practice. I felt grateful and satisfied, because serving through the choir taught me teamwork, discipline, and confidence. Being part of Saint Mary Way that day was a valuable experience that I will always remember.
